Broccoli Seedlings

Today amongst the horror and death involving the lettuce I had some good news.  The broccoli that I planted in the newspaper seedling containers (these are the ones that Dan suggested and I’ll do a post about them and how to do them in the next couple of days) sprouted.

The great thing about the newspaper seedling pots is that they should decompose when I replant the broccoli which will give them the least amount of stress!  This also marks the first completely from seed plants that I’ve cultivated - so there are very high hopes on these little guys.

Those pots look pretty cool. I’ve grown a few things from seed. Tomatoes, chives, french beans, and a currently failing rosemary plant. it’s much more satisfying, but I can’t help looking longingly at the seedlings for sale at the garden centre.

After all there are only so many windowsills to fill up with seed trays

That’s always my issue with seedlings, they’re just easy and often work out to be more cost efficient (well not efficient but often cheaper up front though not in the long run) but I prefer to grow from seed.
