Lemon Grass
Thirty percent off plants at K-Mart! It was hard to pass up a swag of herb seedlings that looked really healthy especially compared to the other ones I bought the other day from the supermarket that were quite sick.
Tracey actually put me onto the Lemon Grass with the assurance that it is hard to kill and grows really well. Two things that will make your life easier in your urban garden.
So I found a huge pot that I’ve been thinking of using for a while and when I read that the Lemon Grass grows to about a metre and a half I thought that might be a good pot to give it plenty of space for roots and therefore hopefully produce a pretty tall plant.
It’s used heavily in Thai cooking and it obviously has a lemony smell.
This grass is rich in a substance called citral, the active ingredient in lemon peel.  This substance is said to aid in digestion as well as relieve spasms, muscle cramps, rheumatism and headaches.
Apparently it is quite strong so you don’t use a huge amount and you are able to freeze it for up to six months with no flavour loss. I’m hoping to use it in tea and I might dry it which will prove to be a whole new level of project!

I’ve managed to get a bunch of new seeds at the discounted price too, they’ll all be added to the project. Maybe I need to set up a inventory page!
