Fruits of my labour

Today was a pretty big day for the project as it was the first harvesting of food from the plants. the extra bonus was that it was the embattled lettuce that provided the food!

Lettuce - ready for a little pruning

The lettuce upstairs which has had a much easier time of it compared to the downstairs lot was getting large enough to be able to have some leaves removed and so today we had egg and very fresh lettuce sandwiches.

I couldn’t be happier with the produce as the lettuce leaves were crisp and flavoursome - something you don’t tend to experience that with store bought ice burg lettuce!

The lettuce leaves

The other exciting thing happened to the downstairs lettuce when I was watering them I noticed different leaves under one of the plants and realised that when the plants had been messed around with this one was almost buried under the other plant.I excavated it and moved the other plant and now I’ve recovered one of the downstairs lettuces! It was really surprising because the leaves weren’t that bad considering they’d been buried for three or four days!
